You MUST check out the video that shows "Seam Carving for Content-Aware Image Resizing". Seriously. It will take a while to download, but if you stick with it and watch the whole thing you'll see the future of how images will be resized (and in some cases edited).

The funny/cool thing is.. within a couple of days of this appearing there were already a couple of people who had rough prototypes of this technology done in Flash/ActionScript.
